Sella & Mosca was founded in Alghero in 1899 by the two Piedmontese entrepreneurs who gave it its name: Mr Sella, an engineer and grandson of the famous statesman Quintino Sella, and the lawyer Edgardo Mosca.
In the same year, they embarked on a major land reclamation project in the area where the company now stands.
Sella & Mosca managed to overcome their challenge, still regarded today as pioneering, unique and exemplary, and set up a successful business.

In 2016, with its acquisition by the Terra Moretti Group, it gained a new impetus towards innovation and respect for the land.
Alongside its commitment to wine-making, the Terra Moretti Group has carried out an architectural and practical restoration of the old winery centre, which also includes a small church dedicated to Madonna dell’Uva and features picturesque historic wine cellars and period mansion houses that have now been transformed into the charming agri-resort of Casa Villamarina.

All the facilities are set in a large park, surrounded by more than 542 hectares (1,339 acres) of vineyards. The aim is to continue and complete a project that, now as then, is a credit to its native Sardinia, welcoming thousands of visitors to its estate every year.

Today, the historic cellars, built in 1903, the wine store and the small museum are open to the public.
Visitors to the estate can relive the atmosphere of the early 20th century, in a continuous kaleidoscope of scents, smells and aromas that convey the character of this strong, sun-drenched land and contribute so much to the unmistakable personality of its wines.
