Desia Boutique Winery

No public service

The winery’s history began in 1998, when Paolo Dettori bought 2 hectares (5 acres) of land with a desire to produce a high-quality wine. Over the years the property has expanded to a total of 50 hectares (123 acres), of which 11 (27 acres) are planted with vines, 10 (25 acres) with olive trees and the remainder with pasture and Mediterranean scrub predominated by dwarf palms.

Each Desia bottle embodies the essence of the vineyard from which it originates, at around 200 metres (650 feet) above sea level. Paolo Dettori and his wife Annalisa Sias committed to creating products that reflect the hilly terrain of the Ittiri area in the province of Sassari – an area that is well suited to olive cultivation and wine-growing.
The climate here is dry in summer and cool in winter, with marked temperature variations in the middle seasons. Owing to the presence of Lake Cuga and the powerful currents that flow from the sea at Alghero towards these southwest-facing vineyards, the vines and wines acquire salinity and sapidity.
The soil, which is excellent from this point of view, is rich in limestone and has a high fossil content, which gives all the wines a distinct minerality and ensures a long shelf life, depending on the year of production.

Desia is a “Boutique Winery” that produces a limited amount of wine, which is always carefully selected, primarily in the vineyard but with significant oenological work carried out in the cellar.
The company is currently in the process of converting to organic farming and by 2023, all products will be certified organic.
